Venue for Use

The TRX Pro is more suitable for outdoor exercises than the TRX Home because it is tougher and more rugged. It is not advisable to leave the TRX Home outdoors for an extended period. Which TRX Model Is Right for You?

For most people, the deciding factor is the price gap between the two units. Cost aside, how you plan to use your TRX device and whichever feels the most comfortable will determine your choice.

Experts recommend the more robust Pro if mobility is a priority, like when you regularly run, hike, swim, camp, travel, or visit the park. If you’re mostly housebound, as most of us are nowadays, the Home version will suffice.

Comfort is of utmost importance. Pay attention to the feel of the handles. Would you prefer foam grips over rubberised ones? Are you impressed with surfaces that have antimicrobial components on them? Do your feet fit well in the cradles? Would you prefer adjustable straps? You decide which fit and grip are appropriate for you.

Notes on the Foam Handles of the TRX Home

The grip handles are made of soft but dense foam. Many appreciate this for the comfort. However, with time, the foam will disintegrate and rip off, primarily if you regularly rest your feet against it. Good quality tennis shoes will eventually wear off the foam.

Over time, even if the foam is intact, with your hands pulling on the handles are going to wear it down over time. This is the same for foam pads you find on gym and workout equipment. When the foam wears off down to the pipe, it will be uncomfortable on your hands, especially when you’re doing rows or presses. Unfortunately, the handles are not removable and cannot be replaced. So, Coach Sim covers frayed foam grips with duct tape.

More importantly, the foam absorbs moisture and sweat, which can be unsanitary in a multi-user setting as it attracts germs.

Notes on TRX Prices

The current prices for the TRX Home 2 and the TRX Pro 4 from the official TRX website might seem high for most people. You don’t have to buy direct from the manufacturer, though. Also, there are other cheaper brands, although quality and durability may not be the same. Examples are the QonQuill suspension trainer and RITFIT BodyWeight fitness training resistance straps.

You can get a brand new one for $100—way below the retail price of a genuine TRX—that looks exactly like the real thing, complete with a “patent” label.

Sim reiterates that using fake TRXs for suspension training is dangerous. There’s no guarantee they will last long or won’t break while you’re exercising. As you are applying your full body-weight in many suspension trainers exercises the equipment must be dependable. If not you can hit the ground with plenty of force which can cause serious injury.

He knows because he bought an imitation TRX online himself just to test it out and had a horrendous experience. He used it one day while doing some heavy low rows.
